Actor, comedian and impressionist and also much in demand as a comedy scriptwriter, Julian has just landed a prime-time TV comedy series for BBC 1, POMPIDOU!, co-created and co-written with Little Britain star Matt Lucas. The first silent comedy TV series to be made for almost twenty years (since Rowan Atkinson’s ‘Mr. Bean,’) Julian is writing 6 episodes with Matt for filming later this year.
One of the driving forces behind the hit BBC One comedy show The Big Impression with Alistair McGowan, Julian has written and starred in several of his own series on BBC Radio 4, as well as many other TV and radio shows. His series Truly, Madly, Bletchley was described byThe Independent on Sunday as "The most confident new sitcom since The Navy Lark, and Time Out praised his series The Harpoon, written with Peter Baynham, as having achieved "classic status."
His children's sitcom Scoop for CBBC, which Julian writes and performs in, is now in its third series, totalling 39 episodes, and the hit impressions show "The Secret World," for BBC R4, written with Bill Dare, in which Julian performs alongside star impressionist Jon Culshaw, will have its fourth season broadcast in 2013. The show was described by the Daily Express as "...definitely one of the funniest things I've heard on R4 for a while."

After studying English and History at Leeds University Julian began his career as an actor - touring Europe in Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde, writing and appearing in his own play, THE CANDIDATE, at the New End Theatre, Hampstead, appearing in the West End with Charlton Heston and Ben Cross in THE CAINE MUTINY COURT- MARTIAL, and touring in Alan Ayckbourn's ABSENT FRIENDS. In addition, early TV appearances included TUCKER’S LUCK, THE BILL, THE GENTLE TOUCH and other police series JULIET BRAVO, and ROCKLIFFE'S BABIES.
In the early 90's Julian turned to comedy, quickly establishing himself on the stand-up circuit as a leading impressionist; touring with Jim Tavare, Jenny Éclair and Al Murray and supporting Harry Hill in the West End at the Queen's Theatre.
As a prolific radio writer and performer Julian has written and performed in more than two hundred radio shows, including several series of WEEKENDING (Radio 4) THE NEWS HUDDLINES (Radio 2), his acclaimed comedy series, THE HARPOON (Radio 4) - co-written with Peter Baynham and nominated for a British Comedy Award - his own show TRULY, MADLY, BLETCHLEY (Radio 4), which attracted rave reviews and was nominated for a Sony; his adaptation of the PG Wodehouse stories UKRIDGE (Radio 4), Harry Hill's acclaimed FRUIT CORNER, the hit medical comedy STRUCK OFF AND DIE with Phil Hammond and Tony Gardner, GUSH by Ian Hislop & Nick Newman, the lead role of Dick Barton in DICK BARTON, GENERAL PRACTITIONER, and the lead in the long-running satirical comedy MAMMON.
As a result of his radio work Julian was awarded the Peter Titheradge Comedy Writer's Award along with Richard Herring and Stewart Lee.
On TV Julian has performed in sketches with the legendary Peter Cook in THE BORE OF THE YEAR AWARDS (BBC2), with Paul Merton in DOES CHINA EXIST?, and was cast as the Secret Lemonade Drinker in TV adverts with Ronnie Corbett and John McEnroe etc. In 2000 he co-created the highly successful series THE BIG IMPRESSION (BBC 1), with Alistair McGowan and Ronni Ancona, and worked as a writer and performer on the show for four series and several Christmas Specials. The show won a British Comedy Award, and a BAFTA in 2003. Julian also writes and performs extensively for children’s TV: after writing 3 series of the long-running legendary children’s TV series CHUCKLEVISION, in 2008 he landed his own TV series on CBBC, SCOOP. A ratings hit, the series has run to three seasons, totalling 39 episodes.
Recently, Julian has written and performed in three series of the hit impressions show THE SECRET WORLD (BBC Radio 4), described as “the funniest show on radio for a long time,” (Daily Express) in which Julian co-stars with Jon Culshaw and Lewis Macleod (a fourth series has been commissioned for 2013); INSIDE ALAN FRANCIS (BBC Radio 4), and LES KELLY'S HEROES (BBC Radio 4) with Kevin Bishop. He has also recorded RECEPTION (BBC Radio 2) and BRIAN GULLIVER'S TRAVELS (BBC Radio 4).
